History

  • In 1952, commissioned by Central Committee of the Communist Party, Archival Studies Specialization was set up in Renmin University of China, which indicates the birth of higher professional archival education and career in new China.
  • In 1955, Historical Archives Department was set up, and began to enroll undergraduates.
  • In 1978, Archives Department was set up.
  • In 1979, postgraduate educational programs was established in Archives Department, the History of Chinese Political System Master Degree Program was set up.
  • In 1982, Archival Studies Master Degree Program was set up and enrolled the first Archival Studies postgraduate students in China in the same year.
  • In 1985, Archives Department was expanded to Archives College (AC).
  • In 1993, Archival Studies Doctor Degree Program was set up and the next year enrolled first Archival Studies doctor degree students in China.
  • In 1998, Library Studies Master Program was set up.
  • In 2000, Information Studies Master Degree Program was set up.
  • In 2001, Information Management and Information System Program was added in undergraduate educational programs, Department of Government Information Management were set up.
  • In 2002, Archives College was authenticated as the State’s Key Discipline.
  • In 2003, School of Information Resource Management (SIRM) in Renmin University of China was named based on Archives College.
  • In 2005, doctor degree authentication at the first level of discipline of Library Studies, Information Studies and Archives Management was empowered to SIRM.
  • In 2006, Archival Studies discipline was once again authenticated as the State’s Key Discipline.    
  • In 2008, Information Studies discipline was authenticated as the key discipline of Beijing City.
  • In 2009, Both Doctor Degree Program and Master Degree Program of Information Resource Management was set up.
